Time in a Bottle Altered Book

I've had this little book for ages. It's from Zutter. I love little books and just haven't gotten around to it. So, here it is, finally, with some ephemera from Tim on it...... all OVER it. Follow all the links for product descriptions.

The paper is from Tim's Lost and Found paper stash.

Also used were Tim's Alterations - Tattered Florals, Texture Fades - Damask, and the circle from the Paper Rosette.

Suze Weinberg's Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel Brightz - Spruce Green.

A concoction of Distress Ink Aged Mahogany Re-Inker and Fired Brick, Perfect Pearls Perfect Gold, and water in a Mini Mister.

Ranger's Glossy Accents.

Metal is from Ten Seconds Studio - Barn Red.

And other bits of ephemera, tulle, ribbon, and wire.

So, I started with spraying the entire book, inside and out with the PP and Ink mixture. Then I added the papers to all the surfaces except the outside spine.

The Ruler Ribbon was glued to the spine, and the little silver drawer pulls were added. They had been painted with several different colors of Alcohol Inks to get the mottled look that I like. Let it run and puddle.

A number is added to the bottle with micro beads and wire wrapped and curled around the top.

The metal piece is cut using the Rosette die, then embossed with the Damask Texture Fade and crinkled up to add dimension. The clock is glued to the center.

The Film Strip is added, and the Spinners are embossed with the UTEE and layered with Gears and Foliage over the clock faces.

The black and gold material was cut using the Tattered Floral die. Tulle was gathered and tied through the Accoutrement Button.

The tiniest of Tim's Pictures were used with Glossy Accents in the Charm Clips. Copper Metallic Mixatives was painted onto the Charm with a brush. And Alcohol Ink was painted onto the Foliage pieces. Add Baubles, Word Stick, and Charms with Jump Rings.

I added Hitch Fasteners to the Clips, and layered the Foliage pieces to add interest.

Stamp and decorate the rest of the book and add pages to your liking.

Explore all the "stuff" you've collected and just have FUN!

Experiment Results

Earlier I told you I was experimenting with Texture Fades, Metal, and Alcohol Inks. It's really fun what you can do.

This is a canvas board that I added Shabby Shutters Crackle paint all over edges.

Then smushed some Distress Inks in when it was dry. Interestingly, I had put Distress Inks around the edges months ago and left it. Then, when I added Crackle this time, it picked up the brown DI color and added a cool affect to the Crackle. Leeched the color right up!

The Texture Fade Pumpkin Patch from Tim on Spiced Rum Ten Seconds Studio metal was good. The background is Rock Star Black, and Halloween Words. I cut out pieces from the Halloween Paper in the Seasonal Paper Stash. But what to add for more fun?????

Try painting with Alcohol Inks! I used Lettuce here to add the cornstalks. Just practice a bit to know how the ink will react and you're good to go. Sorry about the shadow at the bottom.

Here is a different angle. Sand off the Appletini Green metal and ADD the color to the silver areas. Blend in different colors of Alcohol Inks for shaded results.

Here's our busy class yesterday. All the containers were painted and we were well on our way to cutting and gluing!

Big thanks to Terri and the Fabulous Staff at Prairie ART Stamps. They think of everything, and it was smooth as glass!!!!!

Good times and everyone was happy! Love the time spent there, and speaking of spent!!!! They did some great shopping, too! They have all kinds of "hard to find" Art Products there. Just ask all the girls who left with big sacks of "Happy Stuff."

Be Well!

SPOOLS!!!!! So cool!

First of all, I did NOT come up with this idea. Julie Van Oosten from Australia and Collections owner, has this totally cool video on her blog Nirvana showing how to make these beauties. I made them in anticipation of having things to load into Tim's new Configurations...whew..very cool items!

I used Tim's outrageous Lost and Found papers, and one of his Salvage Stickers. The heart Charm is colored with Terra Cotta Alcohol Ink. But the rest are just punched circles of paper on top of chipboard scraps.

~

Just follow Julie's video, which shows her using her Spool Kit. Which, if you really want fun, order it! I've ordered from her, and her chipboard cutouts, stamps, papers, etc, are absolutely WONDERFUL. Must get my order ready!

~

But, as I've told you before, I am not patient, and ordering from Australia wouldn't come until after CHA. And I needed something to do today. I tripped in the driveway, and fell splat on my left hand, and twisted an ankle....and you wonder why my husband sweats when I go somewhere alone....

~

So, ice bag on my ankle, and told to "sit for awhile", the garden cleanup went on hold. (I knew I shouldn't have even started.)

~

Better now, but, I could see my CHA trip flying before my eyes with a trip to Prompt Care....I will stay away from the garden. I figured I'd get stung by a bee or something...not fall!

Go check out the blog. Order, or make some yourself. You won't be sorry. And CREATE ART!

Tim's Texture Plates and Vintaj Brass

Keep in mind, I'm no jewelry maker. I dabble in it like I do way too many other things. But this is such a cool technique, I had to show it to you.

This Altered Brass Blank from Vintaj was run through the Cuttlebug with Tim's new and fabulous Texture Plate Bingo. I still can't believe that stuff embosses through the machine. Amazing!!!!

Then you use Alcohol Inks to color the debossed area. Sand off and that's it.

The other pieces from Vintaj are Curving Fern, Bead Caps Blossom, Ornate chain, Woodland Leaf, and rivets. Of course you have the green beads, jump rings, and eye pins, too.

This was really a fun project. But I'm much better at stamping, in my opinion. Like most things, it just takes practice. And better eyes!!!!

On another interesting note, we had at least 3 tornadoes rip through the area the other night. Lost power for a tiny bit. But no damage to us. The poor Artists out at the Junction City Art show weathered it pretty well. It was such a change on Sunday when we went. Great show and did buy a few baubles. Bill saw some of the damage today when he went to breakfast with friends. We were very lucky.

And I had a couple of questions on previous blog entries. The "stuff" above and below the picture in the LO called TJ and Me is trim I bought down in Missouri at Sherry's shop.

And Jan wanted to know if there were any other layering books out there I'd recommend....yes, "Delight in the Details" by Lisa Pace is fabulous. You will learn sooooooo much from her wonderful book about many different things to use in collage and paper arts. She is the Queen of Glitter.

And did you know, you can actually get dark pink nail polish out of your Berber carpet if you immediately soak it with Blending Solution? Yes, it's true. No one need know HOW the polish got onto my carpet.....and the kids are in Disneyworld so I can't blame them!!!!

So get on line, or go to your local bead shop and order some terrific stuff from Vintaj and don't forget to get your fabulous new Texture Plates. Do your part to get the economy back up and running!!!!!

Vintaj Brass and the Cuttlebug

Before the Dragonfly is added...the inks and brass are hard to get a good pic of with glare changing the colors.....brass looks silver here...but ink colors are more accurate.

Jess from Vintaj sent me some brass a couple of months ago. It's really cool plates that are 3x3 and various other sizes. I drew a blank.

She has said it can go through the Cuttlebug and get embossed. I was skeptical to say the least. This stuff is HEAVY!

Well, I'm here to report, I was really wrong!!!! THIS STUFF IS SOOOO COOL!

You just send it through the Cuttlebug and it works!!! AMAZING!!!

After you emboss, use Alcohol Inks in various bright colors and a paint brush to color the recessed areas. Add tiny drops of Blending Solution to create cool affects. I also used some Metallic Mixative Gold on the blank and the Dragonfly. Sand off the numbers to remove any unwanted ink.

I glued the blank to chipboard to raise it. The little wooden box was painted with Landscape Green from Claudine Hellmuth's collection, and aged with Distress Inks.

The papers are from the 7Gypsies 6x6 pack Gypsie Market. VERY COOL papers.

I traced and cut each section, added stamps and distress ink and glued to the box with Matte Multi-Medium from Claudine. When dry, add another layer of the medium to seal.

The Dragonfly is glued with Crafter's Pick. I used a dry brush technique to add the Gold Mixative. Love how that worked out.

Enjoy the weekend....Soccer Tournament for Erin. Should be good weather if the fields dry out a bit!

Word Stick Earrings

Had some fun playing with the Birdcage Die over the weekend using it on several different surfaces. Here I added Tiara Stickles to make it glitzy!

The Word Stick earrings were really fun to make. I punched a hole using the 2 hole screw punch to add a chain link from the Link Chain.

To add the link, hold both sides with the 2 pliers, and open pulling one to the front and one to the back . This keeps the integrity of the shape of the link. Then just roll it back after you add your beads.

The beads are on an eye pin, and I used a wrap to make the loop. You could add Alcohol Ink to the Word Stick or Acrylic paint in the word itself to add color if you choose.

Enjoy the day...the move went really well...we're sore all over, but glad it had no Whammies!

Collage with Wax, Metal, and Wood

I have kept this little beeswax canvas knowing I would find a place for it some day. It was one of the practice pieces I did before attempting the Ranger Designer Challenge collage.

It's a transparency of my Mom when she was in her early 20s. Beeswax, stamping, rubons, and Perfect Pearls are all a part of this tiny piece.

You know the Peacock metal is the background with Luminarte, Alcohol Inks and pens. (Sorry for the glare at the top....this stuff is hard to photograph!)

Then we have the gold lace and ribbon on top of the thin Cherry Wood from Creative Imaginations, that I cut with Tim's new die from Sizzix. And the Petaloo flowers are the final touch! Aren't they gorgeous??? Mom always loved to plant and arrange flowers, so this had to have flowers on it.

Have a great weekend!

BEAUTIFUL Peacock Metal-UPDATE

***UPDATE-One of the comments said this color looked more green than blue. That is a result of the Luminarte misting and the angle of the shot. This shows the finished project on the left and the original metal on the right. The picture of the finished project is taken under an Ott light...not always good....but it's the only way I've found you can show a "metallic" affect that is very hard to photograph. If you look at the metal straight-on...it's more blue, at an angle...it's more green. See the color to the far left turning more green?

But, that having been said....I think the photo of original metal is too blue...it's really more turquoise. *****

This blue is truly GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have got to tell you. It's the Peacock color that Ten Seconds Studio just released.

I used a couple of new molds and the older diamond one here. Also used Lin Brown's fabulous "controlled squish" method to get out of spackling the back.

She is BRILLIANT!

Then I sprayed with some of the new Luminarte sprays(recently bought by Creative Imaginations) and added a bit of Alcohol Inks to the raised areas. Some black acrylic paint was used in some of the recessed areas as well.

TOO MUCH FUN!!!! I put it on a square canvas and will use it for something. But I had to show you how beautiful this new color is with the gold accents.

I AM SOOOOOO TIRED!!!!

We've been working non-stop for the past 5 days helping the kids get their house ready to put on the market tomorrow!!! No pressure here....painting, sanding, washing walls, changing outlets, doorknobs, and handles, patching holes in the walls, and PACKING STUFF!!!

Unbelievable what we got done in such a short time. The house REALLY looks good, and we look like, well *%@)! Bill and I are TOAST!

Anybody get time to watch the Olympics???? We had our own, and I think we may have gotten a Bronze.

So, I can post a picture of a really fun project I did using Bare Elements and Creative Imagination papers. I LOVE the way Tim's Bookplate fits on the front.

This is an eyeglass holder, with a magnetic closure, that tips up with the bookplate to open. I used Ranger Alcohol Inks to color the plate the way I wanted. Stamps from Stampers Anonymous really add to the papers as well as pen marks and Distress Inks.

Now if I just remembered to put my extra pair of glasses in there I could find them when I needed them......wouldn't that be nice!!!!

Be well and be good to each other!!!

Ten Seconds Studio Video

The ever popular Cheryl and Megan are back with their off the wall Taco Tuesday video!!! You gotta love 'em!

If you remember, last April 2nd (yes, nowhere close to Christmas) I showed you an ornament you could make using metal, alcohol inks and various other techniques. The center is with copper. (click on to see better)

Margaret had some great acrylic pieces in the store and wanted a sample. Hence, the Ornament.

TSS shows you their take on this similar idea using Fragments. Take a look at it. It's entertaining and enlightening, to say the least.

Vintaj, Alcohol Inks, and the Cropadile-UPDATE

UPDATE: I've had some people asking about where to buy Vintaj. On their site is a button to tell you where you can buy them...the shops in your area. They are carried by Bead Shops. That might help.

After I saw Vintaj's newsletter, I had to try my hand with the blanks~~these are all pieces of their fabulous Brass pieces.

I used Alcohol inks from Ranger and the Fillable Pen to add subtle color to the daisies to make this fun pendant.

AND Jess said the Cropadile works on the brass!!!!! And it does!!!! AMAZINGLY COOL!!!

I think we need a class here for this to share in the fun!!!!!

Have a fun day~Create Art

Blue Grungeboard Coin Purse

Inspired by Jennifer McGuire's tutorial using Alcohol Inks on paper flowers, I tried them on Heidi Swapps orange Florals that are made of cloth...I believe.
~
Anyway they took the inks a bit differently I think, using the Metallic Mixatives and two colors of Alcohol Ink.
~
I added some of the silver to the Idea-ology leaves, and green to the larger flower for contrast.
~
The Idea-ology embellishments adorn the side with a few additional punched holes to add even more delightful pieces.
~

AND the blog had 371 page views the day Mario was on with his hoodie...imaging that! WAAAAYYYYY more than I usually get. Fun!!!
You all come back now!

OH! Now this was FUN!

Since I got my box of goodies from Ranger....aka Idea-ology Tim Stuff...I needed to make a dangle on a pin I'd made in a demo.

I thought a bit of Alcohol Ink on the Ten Seconds Studio metal would be cool...it really is nicer in person. Don't we always say that?!?!?!? HA!

Gonna put it on my Ranger apron collection for classes.

Have a great weekend!

Alcohol Ink Pens

Photographing metal is not easy for me.
~
That said, here is a shot of TSS metal and alcohol inks in the new Ranger Fillable Pen. Pretty cool....really looks better in person....Really.

Trust me, the check is in the mail, your money is completely safe, blah, blah, blah!!!

Just One More

OK, Can you stand one more picture of what to do with the tin boxes?????

These are Maya Road boxes. And if you had my class in Bloomington where we used the Alcohol Inks and stamps to remove color and leave an image, you know how to do this.

Just do it on the inside of the lid and add white paper backing to show your stamped design. Glue on the edges!!! Sand off the ink on the letters.

Tim Holtz came up with this wonderful idea, and it's on his blog in tutorial form.

Just quick ideas for some fun....perhaps a Mother's Day giftbox as suggested by a blogger comment. Did someone say diamonds?!?!?!

Have fun! Create ART!

Tiny Collage Boxes

Ever wonder what to do with the tiny metal boxes you get supplies in from Maya Road? They are way too cute to toss.

So add some alcohol inks with a brush....since it is a tiny area...add several colors in layers. Then cut an image from Paper Imagery Designs image, add some words, a couple of rub ons and gently push under the metal lip inside the box.

Simple, fun, and a tiny gift box for something special!

Alcohol Inks on Acrylic + Copper!

Margaret asked me to try something with this great little ornament the other day. This is a Pageframe Christmas Onrnament #2 piece of Acrylic. The middle section is punched with tiny hole to allow shiny ribbon to be threaded through so it can hang.

The Alcohol Inks were used on one side and paper on the other as Tim Holtz showed in his demo. Black ink stamped on it removes the color for a great effect. The copper side has a few rhinestones for glitz.

I also used Copper Mixative and Cinnamon Stickles on the the project. The last shot TRIES to show how the Ten Seconds Studio Copper on the middle section shows through for a really gorgeous color through the alcohol ink.

Alcohol Inks and Acrylics

Margaret at Scrapbook Friend'z has asked me to come back and teach a class using the Alcohol Inks on Acrylics on Mar. 28th. The flower is a cool technique on a great shape!

We'll use Grungeboard and ribbons and dew drops....you can change the whole look of your piece with Distress Inks and the colors of you Alcohol Inks. You can stamp Grad, Baby, Kids, etc. on your frame to remember a special event. MAKE IT YOUR OWN!

Pick up your frame and paint before class so we have plenty of time to play!

Dress Form Collage

Remember the necklace from the last post? Well, I thought I needed a place to showcase the piece.

I've had this dress form since our trip to Carolina Moon during CHA-S 2007. (Bless Cecile's little heart for taking us there. Boy, can that girl drive!! )Sometimes I need time to think about how to use something...no kidding.

And yes, the butterflies are really that vibrant. They were from a piece of Collage papers in Somerset magazine. I don't know why you can't click on to enlarge the back...over my head.

Keys are t!m's, Idea-ology, there are pieces from Vintaj, Maya Road, Grungeboard, Grungepaper, Distress Stickles, and various vintage pieces I've collected. The white knob on top was aged by using alcohol inks. It was too bright for me....so....ink it!

And the papers are 7Gypsies tissue paper I've hoarded for years over several layers of paints that were wiped off and added again until I got a really old look.
I know that look when I see it....I see it every day in the mirror!!!!!

Have a great day!

Heritage Page

I began this whole adventure about 8 years ago when my DIL invited me to a scrapbook party. I had a blast!!! New tools to buy, new ideas for paper...I LOVE paper.

Then a few weeks later, my dear junior high school buddy introduced me to stamps, and ink, and MORE papers. A monster was created!!!!!

BUT, I never found papers I really liked for my old vintage photos I had of life on the farm in the middle of Nebraska. I have some really wonderful photos I received a couple of years ago from my mom, so I decided with my new love of Graphic 45 papers.....get it on! I used Perfect Pearls and Distress re-inkers on the background paper for Family.

This is a combination of all kinds of "had to have" vintage things. Grandma was a one room school teacher and grandpa a Homestead land farmer. Hard times. She saw her piano go out the door during the Depression. But when she got the 2nd one with her money from teaching, she would sit and play and sing. I started piano at 5. Grandpa could play several instruments, although I never heard him. They would both be proud of Jeff...my teacher/band director son.

So here they are. Perhaps I'll follow with some more of children on the farm. She had my mom, the twins, and my youngest uncle within 3 yrs. The story is there was a set of triplets and 2 sets of twins. Only one set of twins survived. They put them in shoe boxes as beds since they were so tiny. And no pampers....whew!

Have a creative day!
