I had an Epiphany

Late night is when I get my best ideas. Laying in bed, of course, lights off, everything shut down, studio cleaned up....yeah right! Not very often.

But this time I didn't get out of bed, turn on the lights and grab what I'd been thinking about creating. I waited until morning and tried my hand at embossing metal and adding Vintaj Patinas.

I thought it was pretty cool!

So, I needed a thank you gift for someone who'd helped steer me in the right direction with a problem, and this reminded me of their type of interest.

This started as a plain wooden box that I painted with Studio Classic Teal and various other paints dabbed over it with Cut N Dry foam, then stamped.

The Metal Foil is embossed with the Riveted Metal Texture Fade.

This is 3 colors of Patinas... Cinnabar, Rust and Clay...the Rusted Hardware Collection.

Dried with a heat tool, and some French Roast  Fresco paint dabbed on.  Dry again, sand it here and there, and polish with a soft cloth or Detailing Block.

I added the metal easily since the foil has sticky back, cut a piece of Grungeboard with a die and painted to match the orange/rust color for the center of the Ornate Plate.

I added the Curio Knob and Box Corners to the wooden box.

Each one of the Word Bands  was painted with the Mermaid Fresco paint....

raised with a piece of Grungeboard.....

and glued to a side of the box.

The Foundations Box Feet are added last.

I stamped the Mixed Media stamp with Jet Black Archival Ink and the Script from Apothecary in Mermaid paint with a rolled application to make spotty.

These are two of my "most used" stamps in my collections!

So try the Patinas on some embossed metal and see what you think. I think the Rustic feel is great with a Turquoise Paint in contrast!!!

Marvelous Masks and Spectacular Stencils Challenge

Hey everybody! It's a new month, so that means a new challenge at Inspiration Emporium!

This time its Masks and Stencils, so I thought a little step-out would be fun.

Since it's Spring, in some places, I figured a bird would be nice.

I started with a #10 Manila tag and Distress Inks.

There's Broken China and Peacock Feathers applied generously at the top. Then Seedless Preserves came over the top of them.

Squeezed Lemonade goes heavily in the middle with Ripe Persimmon on the edges. See how the blues turn a gorgeous green when the Lemonade hits them.

Then turn you tag upside down and add Peeled Paint and Shabby Shutters to the bottom with a touch of Pine Needles, blending as you go.

Since this was done at night, I know, shocking to those of you who know me, I didn't take a picture of the in-between tag....sorry.

BUT, this is what you get when you use The Dotted Flowers stencil along the edge with Seedless Preserves Distress Ink, and Checkered Dots here and there with white paint on a piece of Cut N Dry foam. Clean the paint from your stencils quickly.

Then I stamped the Birdcage from Artful Flight with Jet Black Archival Ink. The Script from the Apothecary set is stamped with Coffee Ink.

I used the Border Stamp from the Classics 006 set, and the swirl from
Fancy Flourishes with Jet Black Ink all around the sides to fill in.

The Bird from Artful Flight is stamped on the edge of the tag with Jet Black Ink.

And the Flowers in the left corner are stamped with Olive Archival Ink.

The gorgeous ribbon was from the ladies at Red Lead. It's wider and looks great on this larger tag.

That's it for today.

A pretty simple tag you could send to someone hoping for Spring to show it's warmth in the coming days.

I AM READY!

Prize Package and Room Update DONE!

We heard from Susan Killam out prize winner and I'll get that package out tomorrow.

The Theatre and other charms and stars from Retro Cafe Art, and Graphic 45 plus Tim Holtz pieces to add to the fun.

Good luck and let us see what you make Susan!

Well it's been an exciting week with the room update. We tore down wallpaper in the dining room, and resurfaced the walls so they could be painted. All the contractors here were 3 weeks out to come and do it, and I don't wait well. So, we took it on ourselves.

No more of that!

Anyway, it's done and Bill did a terrific job on the walls. They look great and I couldn't be happier.

The worst part is, of course, hoping you get the colors of paint you THINK you picked when they're actually on the wall and dry.

Luckily, I did! He, of course is always thrilled when that happens....as it hasn't always been the case.

They're not exactly true here, as they're both browns...kind of look a bit green, but they're not. The back left corner is the truest.

As you can see, my dining room is not to eat in exactly, it's where I put our piano and several of my paintings.

I didn't paint the large one in the center, but the rest are mine.

We're really glad it 's done....now it's time to open up the sunporch and enjoy the Spring sunshine.

Be Well everyone!
