The Great Smoky Mountain Anniversary Trip

Bill and I always try to go somewhere for our anniversary. Usually it's to Branson....but we decided to change things around this year and go some place different.

And boy have we had a great time!

We had a tour up the mountain today. It wasn't too cold when we left, but as we got higher, of course, the temp dropped 20 degrees.

Our guide took us up Sugarland Mountain as far as we could go this time of year to Newfound Gap across the Appalachian Trail.

With all the rain, the rivers and streams were VERY high. This bridge across the Pigeon River (I think) was very cool.

This was further up the mountain where it began to snow and get colder fast.

Bill HATES to have his picture taken. This was about 10 minutes before we hit the level with snow coming down. (don't tell him he's on the blog.....)

Here is a shot of the raging water.

This is where it had just started to snow. You can see the mountain road going up the side of the mountain.

You could almost see the Indians riding up through the gorge in Dances with Wolves. It was so beautiful.

And this is Chris, our tour guide, out on the rocks in the middle of the river with Jeff!!!!
They made my heart STOP!!! GEEZ!

A fun day.

More tomorrow.

Sleep tight!

  6. Happy Anniversary Linda! I am so glad you and Bill are enjoying yourselves. The pictures are just gorgeous, such lovely country. But you are a better woman than I - LOL! I am afraid of heights, so no way you'd get me on a mountain!
